With funding cuts, the city will be able to send only one or two in the next year (and foreseeable future). Everyone is urged to check the web-site and/or get on the list-serve: midtowngardendistrict.org or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Question: Can we get the city to print and mail the newsletter if we bear the mailing cost? Answer: If a business wants to advertise in the newsletter, and the ad covers the city’s cost, yes. Question: How much does the newsletter cost to mail? Answer: 36¢ each. The city has been spending over $1,000 a month on our newsletter. Ward 6 representative Carmen Cousins of the City Council Ward 6 office reported that Walgreen’s at the corner of Grant & Alvernon is withdrawing its application for a liquor license tomorrow (Jan. 20, 2010). Several petitions requesting that such a license be denied have been circulating. There are nineteen (19) establishments which sell liquor within a mile of that intersection. Pat Rigg thanked the new City Council Ward 6 representative, Steve Kozachik, for his efforts getting street lights installed on her block (N. Walnut Bld between Bellevue and Fairmount). Martha Cooper Library Mary Givens apologized for scheduling three groups in the library’s two meeting rooms. She announced the following upcoming events: Tues. afternoons 1:00-2:00, Melinda Dorling will offer Zuzi, modern dance for seniors. Black History Month will be celebrated Feb. 16, 2010, with a presentation by Gloria L. Smith, a historian. On Feb. 20, at storytime, a miniature horse will visit the children. March 6, a Saturday, from 2:00-3:00 Vivian Enos (sp?) will show teens and adults how to make story-teller boards. March 27, Marge Pellegrino, a well-known local writer, will lead a writing workshop 2:00-4:00pm The library offers ongoing classes in using computers.
